Tonight, history was made at the Tony Awards when Lisa Kron won for Best Book of a Musical and Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron won for Best Original Score Written for the Theatre. It is the first time that this has happened in the history of the Tony Awards, and the presentation of their awards was not included in the broadcast, except for an abbreviated clip when coming back from a commercial break.
Their full speeches are available online, however, and they are available to watch here. The above clip is for Best Original Score, and the clip below is for Best Book of a Musical. As in the case with John Cameron Mitchell, these speeches should be heard and shared, and Kron and Tesori’s amazing accomplishment (and Alison Bechdel’s story) should be celebrated. “You guys our house is so big. Please, let’s not just go back into the living room.”
